CONFESSION - I’m a Crocs girl now. #BIFL
I LOVE a good black platform sandal.
My obsession started when I found a pair of steve madden 6 inch block sandals on a thrift expedition 2 years ago. It was the height of the Y2K revival. I wore them all the time, everywhere. I love towering over the crowd. But the elastic in the strap started to wear out quickly, and I kept rolling my ankle when walking. And my toes gripped over the front like a mermaid clinging to the bow of a ship in effort to prevent falls.
My mom convinced me to throw them out, and I found a new black strappy sandal.
For those who don’t know, Madden Girl is Steve Madden’s answer to fast fashion. The shoes are cute, but they will last 4 seconds before crumbling into dust. Ask me how I know.
And onto the next.
Nothing’s made to last nowadays. I’m holding onto my iphone 6 for dear life as updates continue to phase out older models in effort to drive sales for new releases. It’s just like the Brave Little Toaster taught me, “Planned Obsolescence”. I hate that, it’s so capitalist and anti-environment. It’s becoming harder to find things that last. Even r/BIFL (Buy it For Life) is mostly full of hosing, mens boots from the 40’s, and old safety razors.
(this movie taught me shit I never learned in school)
I used to hate crocs. To be fair, the classic model is ugly as hell. But then I saw they make slides, problem solved. The draw of crocs has always been comfort and durability. I found some bright hot pink ones on sale for 20 bucks at Rack Room. We’re in the middle of barbie summer right now, so I excitedly purchased for in-store pickup. I bought girly knockoff gems on amazon, and I found my new everyday sandal.
I do get weird looks in public because I honestly wear them 90% of the time in my free time. They look like Malibu Barbie Beach shoes. They’re just so cute and comfy asf.
Enter the Sky Line.
This and a pink leather Madewell purse were my 25th birthday presents to myself. I have high expectations and a loud mouth. Crocs, you better not disappoint.
